Services

  • Designed to assist with the dangers and difficulties of detoxification from substances.
  • Withdrawal symptoms are monitored and evaluated throughout the detox process, and consumers are referred out for medical care when necessary.
  • Consumers will begin to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to manage substance dependence as a chronic illness.
  • Consumers will explore relapse triggers and develop plans to neutralize those triggers. Consumers will gain familiarity with community support services.
  • An individualized discharge plan will be developed for each consumer. We will assist in arranging aftercare services.
  • Each consumer receives a thorough assessment at admission to identify their recovery needs.
  • The duration of stay is based on the severity of symptoms and rate of progress which is typically three to five days.

Eligibility

Referrals are screened by telephone prior to admission to ensure proper placement. Drop-in consumers may be admitted if appropriate.

  • Must have used alcohol and/or drugs within 72 hours prior to admissions  
  • Must be experiencing physiological symptoms of withdrawal from chemical substances or be in imminent danger of withdrawal.
  • Must be medically stable and ambulatory.
  • Must be free from suicidal, homicidal, or psychotic behavior.
  • Consumers on medications (including inhalers) will be accepted if the medications are in pharmacy labeled containers.

Adult Sobering Unit

The Sobering Unit is for persons with substance abuse issues: brief stay no longer than 23 hours. We offer recovery support and assist in accessing additional treatment services, including detoxification.

We accept admissions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The duration of stay is up to 23 hours based on intoxication levels. On average, consumers are in the sobering unit for around ten hours.

  • Must be intoxicated at the time of admission
  • A Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) will be taken during intake (must have a BAC no higher than .30 and no lower than 0.04)
  • Must be medically stable and ambulatory
  • Must be free from suicidal, homicidal, or psychotic behavior

Fees and Funding

There is no cost to Kansas residents to use the detox services.

The Adult Detox Unit is supported in part by alcohol tax funds and fees from the Kansas Department for the Aging & Disability Services.
