SACK is a non-profit organization specializing in the prevention, treatment, and case management of individuals affected by substance abuse.

Normal business hours are Monday to Saturday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. You may call 316-267-3825 to schedule an appointment anytime during these hours.

As an alternative, we do walk-in assessments Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. If you present during these hours you will be assessed that same day. Walk-in assessments are completed in the order of arrival and the availability of an Assessment Counselor.

Before being assessed, you must present:

  1. Kansas drivers' license or Kansas ID
  2. Social security card or a copy of birth certificate;
  3. Proof of income.

No assessments will be completed without appropriate documentation.

The requirement for identification does not apply if you are:

  1. Current Medicaid client (must present current medical card);
  2. SB-123 client;
  3. SAP/DOT client.

We accept cash, money orders, and Visa/Mastercard.

SACK adheres to applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality. As a general rule this means that we will not release information about clients without your prior written approval.

There are two RADAC's providing services in five regions throughout the State of Kansas. The RADAC's are private not-for-profit agencies that have contracted with the State of Kansas, Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS), and Addiction and Prevention Services (AAPS) to complete substance abuse placement assessments for persons meeting the eligibility criteria. Substance Abuse Center of Kansas (SACK)- which is one of two RADAC's- Provides services in 29 counties including Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Butler, Chase, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Cowley, Crawford, Elk, Greenwood, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Labette, Linn, Lyon, Marion, McPherson, Montgomery, Morris, Neosho, Reno, Rice, Sedgwick, Sumner, Wilson and Woodson.

Who is eligible?

To qualify for a free confidential assessment through the Substance Abuse Center you must meet the following criteria:

  • Pregnant Women
  • Women with Children
  • Individuals diagnosed with HIV
  • SRS  Referrals
  • Meet SRS Income Eligibility

Consumers who are above the qualifications or who are referred because of a DUI will be charged for the cost of the assessment.

The Wichita Walk-in Center is housed at our Wichita location. No appointment is needed for an assessment. The walk-in center is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

How is a referral made for an assessment?

A simple telephone call by the referring agency or client to SACK will facilitate scheduling of an assessment. Experience has shown that more clients actually show up for the assessment if the referring agency makes the initial referral contact. When scheduling an appointment, the following information is needed: Clients first and last name, mailing address, county, telephone number, date of birth, social security number, Kansas residency status, household income for the last 12 months or confirmation of medical card (Medicaid), referring agency and contact person, telephone and fax number.

In existence since 1995, the Substance Abuse Center of Kansas is a non-profit organization specializing in the prevention of substance abuse and the treatment of individuals and communities affected by substance abuse.

SACK serves as a community resource provider to improve and support recovery alternatives through offering an impartial assessment and referral service. SACK is committed to assisting consumers through a continuum of care including crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, and case management services.

SACK specializes as a consumer advocate, supporting all methods of recovery. We are committed to the development of quality partnerships with provider networks and other stakeholders for the benefit of consumers and referral agencies across our region and the state of Kansas.
